To All The Seniors

Today was supposed to be my alma maters Senior Day and I’m sure there are many college programs out there that would have been having their Senior Day either this weekend or the next. Unfortunately due to the virus, there are thousands of student-athletes across the country that won’t recieve their proper day of recognition. I especially feel for the athletes that have been with their university for four or five years. All of that hard work and effort over the years will not be forgotten just because your season was cut short. No matter if you were a transfer or someone who came into the program as a baby faced freshman, you deserve your own day for what you have put into that program and university.

The University of Montevallo baseball program decided to give its senior players their own virtual Senior Day. Despite not being able to compete in a full season, the baseball program wanted to show its support and appreciation for their seniors by posting each individual, where they are from, how long they’ve been with the university, their career statistics, and a big “Thank you for being a Falcon!” at the end. Although it’s not the same as being out on that field and seeing all the support from your friends, family and teammates, it’s still an amazing gesture that I’m sure every senior on that team will appreciate.

Coming from someone who was only able to participate on Senior Day during my fifth year, I can just tell you how special of a day it was for me. I’ve never felt more honored in my life and it was a moment that I’ll never forget. You look back on all the time you spent with those other seniors, all the practice, games, bus trips and suspicious hotel breakfasts. Despite how long it was, or where you came from, you all arrived to this point. It’s a day to appreciate all of our different journeys that led us to this special moment and celebrate the amazing game that brought us all together.

Thank You for exemplifying what it meant to be Falcon. Giving your all day in and day out, not only on the field, but in the classroom. On what should be a happy day with lots of smiles and a few tears, we are locked up in our houses. Despite this, don’t let it take away from the fact that not only is your university proud for what you have done but any alum who has walked into the Kermit is as well. We know just how bad you guys wanted to be out there representing Motown to the fullest. I know some of you may come back and will get the proper day you deserve, but for many out there a virtual Senior Day is the best they are going to get. To anyone athlete who will not be getting their proper send off, here’s a thank you for everything you’ve done.

From,

A Washed Up Athlete
